Victoria’s largest masterplanned community crossed a key milestone last month when QIC completed an 1000sqm aquatic centre adjacent to the community retail hub of Merrifield City.
The state-of-the-art indoor leisure facility has been designed in collaboration with the Paul Sadler Swimland network, with close to 2000 pre-registrations for its year-round program of swimming lessons breaking records for the Victorian-based operator.
The swim school sets the scene for a vast proposed array of sports and recreation amenities serving the young families of Merrifield and surrounds as part of the shared vision of MAB Corporation and QIC to craft a new mode of suburban living in Melbourne’s outer-north that prioritises wellbeing.
Instruction will range from parent-baby sessions starting at four months old to advanced adult coaching and female-only classes, fostering both health and social benefits for Mickleham locals. Spacious changerooms and abundant on-site parking will maximise access and convenience.
Investment General Manager Quintin Mansell said: “The swim school is an exciting addition to this burgeoning city centre, situated conveniently between the retail destination and our A-grade office accommodation at 21 Cityside Drive to support seamless transitioning between work and leisure time for our ambitious and energetic community.”
The swim school is expected to deliver a boost in foot traffic to the neighbouring cafes and essential retail operators of Merrifield City, while also providing parents working out of 21 Cityside Drive or making use of the on-site childcare centre with an easy after-school activity option.
The commercial offices are due to be operational later this year, with allied health services and a gym coming online as part of the mixed-use development.
Merrifield is located 30km from Melbourne’s CBD with seamless connectivity to the Hume Freeway as well as the planned Outer Metropolitan Ring Road and Donnybrook train station.
